Four Decades of Development: Witnessing the Rise of China's Glass Industry

Founded by the Chinese Ceramic Society in 1986, China Glass has developed over four decades from a professional technical exchange platform into one of the key international platforms connecting China's glass industry with the global market.

Over the past 40 years, China's glass industry has undergone a remarkable transformation—from technology introduction to independent innovation, and from rapid capacity expansion to high-quality development.

Throughout this journey, China Glass has remained closely connected with the evolution of the industry. It has become an important platform for Chinese companies to showcase technological capabilities and expand into international markets, while also serving as a gateway for global glass companies seeking opportunities in China.

More Than 90,000 Square Meters: Global Glass Industry Leaders Gather in Shanghai

The 35th edition covered more than 90,000 square meters of exhibition space, occupying seven halls—N1 to N5, W4 and W5—at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre.

A total of 889 exhibitors from 31 countries and regions participated in the exhibition, including 697 domestic exhibitors and 192 international exhibitors.

Traditional glass-industry powerhouses such as Germany and Italy once again presented their technologies through national and regional groups, showcasing advanced glass production equipment, processing technologies, intelligent manufacturing systems and sustainable production solutions.

The international presence of the exhibition further strengthened its role as a global platform for technology exchange, product presentation, business negotiations and industrial cooperation.

Global Professional Visitors and Growing International Influence

China Glass 2026 attracted 147,575 professional visits from 138 countries and regions, including 17,885 overseas visitors.

Visitors represented more than 30 downstream application sectors, including photovoltaics, construction, automotive, information displays and home appliances. Professional buyers, engineers, corporate executives and industry experts gathered throughout the exhibition halls to discuss new products, technologies, equipment and future market trends.

The strong international attendance demonstrated the growing influence of China Glass within the global glass industry and highlighted the increasingly close relationship between China's glass sector and international markets.

Intelligent Manufacturing and Green Development

Digital transformation and the global transition toward low-carbon manufacturing are reshaping the glass industry.

China Glass 2026 highlighted a wide range of technologies covering automated glass production, digital factories, intelligent inspection, industrial robotics, energy-efficient furnaces, flue-gas treatment, waste-heat recovery and advanced glass processing.

From raw-material preparation and batch mixing to melting, forming, annealing, cutting, processing, packaging and warehousing, glass manufacturing is evolving toward increasingly integrated and intelligent production systems.

At the same time, high-value-added products such as photovoltaic glass, automotive glass, energy-efficient architectural glass, electronic glass and specialty glass became important highlights of the exhibition. Glass is no longer simply a traditional construction material; it is becoming an increasingly important functional material for renewable energy, automotive manufacturing, electronics and advanced industries.

From Traditional Glass to Advanced Functional Materials

Technological innovation is continuously expanding the boundaries of glass applications.

In architecture, high-performance energy-efficient glass, Low-E glass, vacuum glass and smart glass are contributing to energy-efficient buildings and sustainable construction.

In the automotive sector, high-strength, lightweight and multifunctional glass technologies are improving vehicle safety, comfort and energy efficiency.

In renewable energy, photovoltaic glass has become a critical material for the solar industry. Meanwhile, electronic and specialty glasses are playing increasingly important roles in advanced information and technology applications.

By bringing together materials, equipment, manufacturing processes and end-use products, China Glass 2026 presented a comprehensive picture of the industry's evolution from basic materials toward high-value-added applications.

Connecting Global Markets and Building a New Future for Glass

China Glass is more than an exhibition. It is an important bridge for technological exchange, commercial cooperation and global market development.

Companies from around the world use the platform to identify technology partners, equipment suppliers and new business opportunities. At the same time, Chinese glass manufacturers are using China Glass to strengthen their international presence and become increasingly integrated into global industrial value chains.

The successful conclusion of the 35th China Glass Exhibition once again demonstrated the strength of China's glass manufacturing sector, its growing capacity for technological innovation and its increasing competitiveness in the international market.

As the exhibition enters a new chapter following its 40-year development journey, China Glass will continue to connect China with the world, promote technological innovation, accelerate industrial upgrading and facilitate international cooperation.

Intelligent Glass Manufacturing, Empowering a New Future.

Looking ahead, glass will become smarter, greener and more functional, playing an increasingly important role in architecture, automotive manufacturing, renewable energy, electronics and other emerging industries—and creating new value for global manufacturing and sustainable development.
